Pesto Sauce
A rich infusion of basil, olive oil, pine nuts and garlic, pesto sauce complements freshly made pasta. Mix thick, handmade pesto sauce into a bowl of hot noodles for a fresh, robust flavor. Pesto is easy to make and is a flavorful alternative to traditional tomato sauce. Pesto sauce can also be used to jazz up homemade pizzas. Save time by making a large batch of pesto sauce and storing some in a refrigerator or freezer for later use.
Instructions
1 Pour cooled pesto sauce into a plastic or glass storage container. Allow 1/2 inch at the top of the container for expansion.
2 Cover the container securely with an air-tight lid.
3 Write the storage date on a piece of freezer tape and place it on the container for convenience and to ensure freshness.
4 Pour the pesto sauce into an ice cube tray as an alternative freezing method. Freeze the pesto and place the cubes in a zipper-sealed plastic freezer bag to create individual-sized portions.
5 Store the pesto sauce in a refrigerator for up to a week and in a freezer for up to six months.
