Quit Smoking
By Meena Choudhary
A cigarette in my hand and I felt like a man. Many a times, this is the reason people start smoking or chewing tobacco or taking it in any other form. It all starts with curiosity and ends up in addiction. What they don't realize is the cost they have to pay in the long run. We all love ourselves more than anything else in this world. Why then do we indulge in stuff that's sure to drown us one day? Life is beautiful and is meant to be lived and appreciated.
Anything in moderation doesn't do much harm. It is for you to find out whether you are doing tobacco occasionally or is it a part of your life. Heart attack, stroke, emphysema, and cancer (particularly lung cancer, cancers of the larynx and mouth, and pancreatic cancer), these are few of the health hazards associated with usage of tobacco.
Tobacco contains Nicotine, which is known to be among the deadliest of poison. One cigarette contains about 1.7 mg nicotine which is enough to kill 7 people if injected. Nicotine is said to increase your level of concentration, suppress your appetite, help control weight, relieve stress temporarily and enhance your mood. But the negative effects of nicotine outweigh the benefits. These so called benefits are only at the face value. Nicotine gives you these benefits by harming your body. It plays with your brain cells, goes to your lungs and from there it enters your blood stream creating an illusion of well-being.
There are many ways to find out whether you are using too much of tobacco. Following are a few indicators:
* Bad breath even when not smoking
* Yellowish teeth with dark brown patches in the inner side
* Trouble in breathing normally
* Frequent wheezing or coughing
* Spitting black phlegm mostly after waking up in the morning
* Eroding of inner lips due to chewing of tobacco
* Inability to concentrate or thing without the aid of tobacco
* Occasional chest pain after smoking
Say NO to tobacco while there is still time.
