Obesity
You find yourself weighing a lot more than you like. Seems unusual, but you really do want to lose the weight. Where do you start? People who are overweight also can be considered to be obese. The definition of obesity is simply having excess body fat. It is important to become educated. As someone concerned about your health, you should know what are risk factors for obesity.
What are risk factors for obesity? I am going to discuss of them here. Anyone, at any age, can become obese. Obesity even occurs in children. But as we age, we experience changes in our hormones. This fact, plus a tendency to become less active, puts as at an increased risk for obesity. Growing older also means we will experience a decrease in muscle. Less muscle means we have less of a requirement for calories. So we need to reduce the amount of calories we consume every day. If we do not do this, we will have weight gain. An excellent way to burn calories is through exercise. It really takes a combination of both--reduced calorie intake and exercise program.
Another risk factor is smoking. If you have this habit, you should definitely try to quit. Smoking puts an strain on your heart and circulatory system. And, of course, smoking has been linked to cancer. But sometimes when people quit smoking, there is an increase in weight. This should be carefully monitored, so that your smoking cessation program does not lead to even more weight problems.
Social and economic factors can affect obesity, too. You many never have learned to eat properly or how to cook nutritious meals. You may not live in an area that has access to exercise equipment. Or you may not have the financial resources to buy properly prepared foods. Plus, your friends themselves might be obese. They certainly will have an effect on your efforts to lose weight.
So what are risk factors for obesity? You now know three of them. The best advice I can give you is this. Find a good and healthy diet plan that works for you. Stick to it. Seek out social support. Get into some sort of organized exercise program. Places like the YMCA have programs which you can join that are a lot of fun and will help you lose weight. Just do not quit. Stay with your structured, organized program and you will achieve your weight loss goals. Now you are a little more educated as to what are risk factors for obesity and you want to lose weight. As you work your weight loss plan, you will feel and look so much better. You can do it!
